@Basharat: Thanks for the good words. Well, both of these treks Taobutt-Astore via Burzil and Shimshal Pamir have their own charm and cannot be compared directly. However, generally speaking if you have more liking for greenry and alpine trekking, Burzil trek is for you. And you feel good to be at some high altitude at the base of many seven thousanders, Shimshal would be the choice for you.

It was pleasure reading. That's tough "Shimshal to Shewart is 40-45 km". Anyways, I am confused between this trek & Taobhat to Chillum Choki trek. What do U recommend?

I have been on treks like fairy meadows, rakaposhi base camp, Makra peak from Neelam Valley side etc., what do you recommend as an preparation as most of my time is spent in the office and I hardly get any time for exercise, we are a group of 5 & 3 of us are 95KG weight with around 5-11 height. Looking forward for your input.

By the way, along with excellent write-up you are gem of a photographer, well captured!

We recently returned from a trip to the same area. We met a person at the shrine on top of Pir-Chinasi who claimed to be a descendant of Pir Sahib. According to him, names of the peak arise from the following words.

Chan Aasi :
These words are familiar to us all. Chan means friend and aasi means "will come". Pir sahib died there waiting for a friend who had gone ahead further into the mountains.

Aasi Mar :
Aasi is from the Urdu word "aasa" or the walking stick. According the person there was no spring on the mountain top before pir sahib's era. It started flowing when pir sahib struck his stick on ground on the request of the locals, who needed water for their cattle.
